At Northern Montana Health Care, our Anesthesiology team plays a critical role in ensuring your comfort and safety before, during, and after surgical procedures. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) provide expert, compassionate care throughout your surgical experience, using advanced techniques and monitoring to manage pain and maintain vital functions.

Our Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are licensed professionals with advanced training and clinical expertise. They are responsible for administering anesthesia, monitoring patients during surgery, and managing your recovery from sedation.

Anesthesia can include:

• Analgesia (pain relief)
• Amnesia (memory loss of the procedure)
• Sedation or unconsciousness
• Muscle relaxation for surgical access

Each anesthetic plan is carefully tailored to meet the unique needs of the patient and the procedure being performed. Our team works closely with your surgeon to select the right anesthetic method and ensure a smooth, safe experience.

Here are a few ways you can prepare for anesthesia and ensure a safe procedure:

• Follow fasting instructions: You may be asked not to eat or drink anything after midnight before your surgery.
• List all medications: Share a complete list of your prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and supplements.
• Disclose medical history: Inform your anesthesia provider of any past surgeries, allergies, or conditions such as sleep apnea or heart problems.
• Arrange transportation: You’ll need someone to drive you home after your procedure.

Recovery from anesthesia is different for everyone. Here’s what you can expect:

• Drowsiness or grogginess is common and may last a few hours.
• Mild nausea or sore throat may occur, depending on the type of anesthesia used.
• Rest and hydration are key - your body needs time to fully recover.
• Avoid driving, alcohol, or heavy decisions for at least 24 hours post-procedure.
• Follow your discharge instructions closely and call your provider if you have questions or concerns.
