Northern Montana Health Care marked a national milestone today, becoming the first health care system in the nation to use a new computer-assisted system designed to help detect suspected colorectal polyps during an endoscopy.
Dr. Damian Ymzon, MD, used the CADDIE™ Device Computer-assisted Detection system during an endoscopic procedure today.
“This new AI-augmented system will help better detect polyps or other abnormalities in the colon,” Ymzon said. “I am happy that we can bring this latest technology to the Hi-Line.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, colorectal cancer screening saves lives because it can find precancerous polyps that can be removed before they become cancer. Screening also helps detect colorectal cancer at an early stage, when treatment is most effective.
The software analyzes data from the endoscopic video processor in real time and provides immediate information to aid the endoscopist in detecting suspected colorectal polyps when they are within the field of view.
The CADDIE™ software is part of the Olympus Olysense™ cloud-based suite of applications designed to aid providers in detecting, characterizing and analyzing conditions within the gastrointestinal tract.
NMHC also upgraded its endoscopy equipment to the latest-generation Olympus Evis X1™ system, providing cutting-edge imaging that delivers continuously sharp, high-resolution images with minimal focal adjustments during endoscopic procedures.
The addition of the CADDIE™ system and upgraded imaging technology provides NMHC physicians with enhanced tools to assist during endoscopic procedures, bringing the same advanced technology available at larger medical centers to patients across Montana’s Hi-Line.
