Dr. Thomas Reid is Medical Director of the Sletten Cancer Center and Chief of Hematology-Medical Oncology at Northern Montana Health Care in Havre, Montana, specializing in the practice of Hematology-Medical Oncology. He is originally from Harrisburg, PA. He earned his BS in Microbiology at The Pennsylvania State University and his PhD in Biochemistry at Purdue University. Dr Reid earned his MD at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology-Medical Oncology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC.
From 1991 to 2004, Dr Reid was at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research; Chief of Blood Research for the last 3 of those years. There, his primary research interests were extended storage of blood products, blood substitutes, fibrin bandage to stop traumatic bleeding and coagulation disorders.
From 2004 to 2008 Dr Reid was Chief of Hematology-Medical Oncology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. As Chief, he also served as Chair of the Cancer Care Committee, Co-Chair of the Institutional Review Board, and Principal Investigator for Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB; a cooperative group for cancer clinical trials). After 27 years in the Army Medical Corps, he retired in 2008 as a full Colonel.
After retirement from the US Army, Dr. Reid has practiced medicine in Conway, AR (2008-2011; served on the hospital Ethics Committee), Baltimore, MD (2011-2012; Chief, Hematology-Medical Oncology, Oncology Program Director at MedStar Good Samaritan and Union Memorial Hospitals; Co-Chair of the Clinical Research Committee at the Lombardi Cancer Center, Georgetown University Medical Center), South Bend, IN (2013-2021; Medical Director Hematology-Medical Oncology; developed survivorship program, cancer vaccine program, inpatient-outpatient team approach to cancer care, clinical research relationship with the Mayo Clinic through cancer clinical trials; honored with the ACS Hope Award in August 2014), and then he moved west to Cody, Wyoming where, from January 2021 through March 2026, he was Medical Director of the Big Horn Basin Cancer Center of Cody Regional Hospital and built a nationally recognized rural cancer program. He and his wife Cynthia now live in Havre and love Montana, spending as much time as possible exploring the state. They have three adult sons, Christopher, Tristan, and Jake. Other members of the immediate family include six Scottish Deerhounds, a Chihuahua, two Scottish Highland steers, and several rescue animals (3 burros, 2 horses, 1 mule).
